The first DIY site without any offerings

It is a coming and going of all kinds of DIY sites. Bulk reuse is struggling to get going. While today’s Construction Marketplaces are full of thousands of offers, the construction industry buys some 6 billion euros worth of new material every year. Still less than 1% of all demolition waste is reused as a construction product. That’s about to change according to 33-year-old “old hand in the business” Bas Slager. The trick? Work the other way around!

Bas: “The owners and sellers of reusable supply are experiencing the problem of having more supply than demand. New construction clients and building contractors are not experiencing that problem now. However, building to environmental standards is becoming more challenging, which will change construction.”

Madopt was developed for this change. Here you won’t find long lists of offered products. In fact, it is a platform without supply. Madopt.nl is all about demand. Companies involved in construction projects can share which materials they would like to adopt in their projects. Connected selling parties, such as demolition contractors and brokers, then receive notification of questions relevant to them in their mailbox. This way, sellers only need to act when there is an actual demand and the buyer no longer has to search all kinds of Construction Marketplaces.

March 12, 2024 marks the launch of Madopt. “As of now, the platform is accessible to every circularly active organization,” Bas says proudly. “Through Madopt.nl, people can find their own way. That was not the case with the precursor.” On the previous pilot version of Madopt, dozens of companies were active, posting search queries for tons of procurement value. In one out of three search queries, there was a match. Bas: “With Madopt we expect to grow quickly, more matches per search query and especially faster contact between the person searching and selling. And who knows, maybe my dream will come true: that every construction project will be reused before new material is ordered. That way, together we will buy the demolition sector empty and prevent megatons of raw material waste and CO2 emissions.”
